Sandalford Plates Up GOLD at Catering Institute of Australia
Swan Valley’s most awarded attraction, Sandalford Wines, received the ultimate recognition for its cuisine last night winning three categories at the 2022 Gold Plate Awards:
Licensed Dining Metro and Regional
Restaurant/Café within a Winery Metro & Regionals
Fresh Produce Award
The Gold Plates are an annual awards program managed by the Catering Institute of Australia (WA) which rewards excellence.
Sandalford CEO Grant Brinklow said it was important to celebrate the professionalism of WA’s hospitality industry and benchmark with peer restaurants.

Some 70 team members from Sandalford Wines attended – the highest turnout in its history – and it is fitting they were present as it is their individual contributions which make it possible for our business to shine.

Grant said Sandalford Restaurant had now received a total of 37 Gold Plate awards – the most of any organisation in the 57 year history of the awards – and credited executive chef Alan Spagnolo and the current restaurant team.
“Alan and head chef Bradley Cox brought a new level of flair and finesse to Sandalford since our restaurant reopened after major enhancements in January 2021.
Our front of house management team is very capably lead by industry professional Bridget Le Grove, and we are fortunate to have a very international hospitality team with Italy, Argentina, England, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia all represented in our kitchen and on the floor.”
Additionally Sandalford’s Functions and Banquets team lead by corporate tourism manager Jenny Hvalgaard was also a finalist against the ultimate winner Optus Stadium in the Venue Caterers category. Already this year, Sandalford Estate has been host to more than 250 successful wedding receptions and a further 100+ corporate and social events.
Sandalford’s current run of success saw their restaurant included in the WA Good Food Guide Top 100 List this year, and more than six hundred 4.8 score guest reviews on Google.
Alan Spagnolo’s Summer 2023 Menu will be released on January 13.
