Sandalford's New 2021 Grenache Joins the 1840 Range
We’re excited to share the news of another fabulous addition to our range of 1840 wine, 2021 GRENACHE.
This dark-skinned, red wine grape variety has its origins in the South of France and Northern Spain and is now one of the most multi-faceted varietals on the Australian wine scene.
Handpicked in late February from old vines at our Caversham vineyard, Sandalford’s 1840 Grenache exhibits intense flavours of nutmeg, wood spice and mushroom and is accented with aromas of raspberry, cherry, pomegranate and wild mint.
Sandalford winemaker Ross Pamment notes Grenache has seen a rise in popularity as a dry red style in the last decade.
“As a lighter, medium-bodied wine Grenache offers a really fresh dry red alternative to the traditional, heavier styles of Cabernet and Shiraz,” he says. “It has been long established here in the Swan Valley, which has a similar climate to its European homes. Traditionally, it has been used in fortified wines and is also perfectly suited to producing pale coloured, savoury Rosé wines.”
The 1840 Grenache is a fruit forward style, bottled and released early to capture its primary bright essence. It pairs well with slow cooked, hearty meats and all types of pasta, and it stands alone as an amazing varietal to serve with a cheeseboard.
We recommend our textural, flavoursome 1840 Grenache is best enjoyed lightly chilled while young and vibrant.
