Sandalford's Gold Plated Accolades Seal 2019 Success
Western Australia’s most awarded attraction, Sandalford Wines’ Swan Valley Estate, completed a stellar year last night by receiving Gold Plate awards in four categories of the 2019 Kleenheat Gold Plate Awards held in Perth on 25 November 2019.
Sandalford Restaurant won Restaurant within a Winery and Modern Australian Dining and was bestowed the Prix D’Honneur award for winning the Gold Plate in the Tourism Restaurant category for three consecutive years. Significantly, the Bill Thompson trophy recognising the highest individual excellence was awarded to Sandalford’s assistant restaurant manager Josh Trenaman for the best service across Western Australia.
Sandalford CEO Grant Brinklow said the Gold Plate wins were a fantastic reward for the highly consistent and dedicated Sandalford team.
“These achievements are extraordinary, especially when you consider they bring the total tally of Gold Plates bestowed on Sandalford in the last 11 years to more than 26, making our restaurant the most successful in the 53 year history of these awards. Everyone at our estate has worked so diligently this year and it is fantastic to see their stellar efforts rewarded by such significant industry awards. I would also like to recognise the sponsorship of Kleenheat and Buy West Eat Best at this event – without such support these events would not exist,” said Mr Brinklow.
“Our new Summer 2019/2020 Menu launches next week and is the perfect opportunity for locals and visitors to our estate to discover why our team are consistently recognised with awards and accolades. Executive Chef Andrew Mann’s menu showcases regional WA produce and local suppliers in a modern menu of Australian cuisine that will appeal to local as well as the visitors from all over the world we welcome to Sandalford.”
Sandalford Restaurant was awarded Silver in the national 2019 Australian Restaurant & Catering Institute Awards in August this year. The new Summer menu resembles a grazing board of the state of WA, with new entrees such as chargrilled Abrolhos Island Octopus and standout Ferguson Valley lamb loin main served with house made vincotto. Even the side dishes read like a road trip, with Kununurra green beans, Capel broccolini, and York sandalwood nuts lining up to create a palate pleaser.
The Gold Plates are the second major awards in two weeks for Sandalford Wines. The Swan Valley winery won two Gold awards at the 2019 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards, Silver in the Tourism Restaurant category, and entered the Hall of Fame for winning the Chinese Tourism category for three consecutive years. Sandalford had just farewelled international chef Marco Pierre White and celebrity guests at the 2019 WA Gourmet Escape, and announced it will host a major concert with Sir Rod Stewart in 2020.
“We have had a tremendous year and it is continuing throughout December and the summer of 2020 with the upcoming Grapevine Gathering concert this weekend, John Farnham and guests at Live in the Vines the following weekend and the Red Hot Summer Tour featuring Hunters & Collectors in January,” said Grant Brinklow.
“During the entire process, we are also managing our Stage 2 Estate Enhancements which will see expansions to food and beverage operations, retail space and general customer experiences in line with the vision of our owners, Debra and Peter Prendiville.”
