Sandalford is the P.M.'s Pick!
In a move reflecting the increasing significance of cellar door tourism to regional Australia, Sandalford’s Swan Valley Estate was chosen as the venue for a campaign stop by the incumbent Prime Minister to outline a $20 million tourism package for wineries, distilleries and breweries over the weekend.
CEO Grant Brinklow believes the Swan Valley is the centrepiece of Western Australia’s wine tourism industry.
“The fact the Swan Valley was chosen for this opportunity is no co-incidence. There are only two capital cities in the world with a wine producing region within their metropolitan area: Perth and Vienna. Not only is the Swan Valley attractively accessible, but we produce amazing wines and outstanding visitor experiences,” he said.
The Member for Hasluck, Ken Wyatt, introduced Prime Minister Scott Morrison, welcoming him to ‘God’s country’ before Mr Brinklow escorted them both on a vineyard tour. Next, senior winemaker Ross Pamment conducted a barrel tasting of a 2022 Margaret River Chardonnay and a 2022 Swan Valley Shiraz.
Mr Morrison, who expressed a preference for the smooth red Shiraz, was impressed with the significance of Sandalford’s Swan Valley Estate within the frame of Western Australia’s winemaking history.
“The sociohistorical aspects of Sandalford – particularly the land being bequeathed to our state’s first Governor General by Queen Victoria – interested the PM. He was also admiring of the outcome of our recent $6 million enhancement program undertaken during the onset of Covid19, particularly as the plan he came to announce is intended to allow wineries to construct and upgrade their facilities to attract tourism visitors,” said Mr Brinklow.
Sandalford are gearing up for their 2022 concert season, with a major announcement about a special November concert expected very soon. Bookings are open for a unique May Winter Degustation and 2022 Rose Reveal and the ever popular Captain Cook Gourmet Wine Cruise is operating in perfect conditions.
“It has been an incredibly tough couple of years for anyone in tourism, and to have the chance to host a major campaign event here was very rewarding,” said Mr Brinklow. “All in all, it has been a fantastic weekend with our Sandalford Restaurant and Bar being fully booked for Mother’s Day as well. I can’t express enough how grateful I am for the team we have here – everyone leaned in and worked together to make it happen,” he said.
