Our Vintage 2022 Moves Towards a Fine Finish
Sandalford Wines’ two superb vineyards at Swan Valley and Margaret River are producing excellent results this vintage. With harvest almost over and our White and Rosé fermentations all but completed, winemaker Ross Pamment has an update on the state of play.
“Next week, we will be assembling the necessary blends to meet our May bottling plan of Late Harvest, Verdelho, Winemakers Classic Dry White, Margaret River SBS, 1840 Rosé and Margaret River Rosé. The SBS blends can be best described at this stage as fresh, crisp and zesty with a bright acid profile. The Rosés are looking fresh and vibrant with lovely pale pink colours. These wines will be a good follow up from last year.”
The Caversham reds are now pressed off skins and into barrel to complete their secondary malolactic fermentation.
“The 1840 Shiraz is looking particularly good in style with previous releases; the careful fruit selection process at time of picking this year ensured we achieved the best result possible.”
At our Wilyabrup Margaret River vineyards, the red intake is now well underway with the majority of Shiraz now in fermenters.
“The Shiraz yields appear to be lower than the long term average, however the fruit quality is very good. Cabernet picking off Wilyabrup is likely to begin next week, and we expect this to be completed before Easter. Quality is also looking good here and, weather permitting, we will have a great finish to the 2022 vintage.”
All of us at Sandalford are keenly following the 2022 process of vinification, the production of wine, and looking forward to bringing you this vintage.
