2016 Sandalford Winemakers Classic White
The Winemakers Range is all about delivering quite simply the best Western Australian wine at the best price. Quite simply, "Bang for your buck!" These wines are a blend of both the Margaret River and Swan Valley regions. In other words we have the riper, richer notes from the Swan with the cooler climate, more elegant and sophisticated characters from Margaret River. There are no lashings of oak and winemaking artefact here, just great fruit-driven wines from vines up to fifty years of age. These wines are all about balance, harmony and drinkability without burning a hole in your purse or wallet! So go on, have a crack and let us know the outcome! As always, enjoy in moderation.
Peter, Richard and the picking crew were again out in the dark during February to harvest all of these magnificent grapes in the cool of night. Geoff then drove them to the winery on his truck. Greg tipped them into the crusher, Mark pumped them via a chiller into the press and the juice then went into a nice clean stainless steel tank for fermentation. Four weeks later, hey presto, white wine! We did manage to sterile filter this wine on the way to bottle just to make sure it was squeaky clean.
A fruit salad of Sauvignon Blanc 60%, Semillon 23%, Verdelho 12% and Chardonnay 5% grapes.
Floral, musk like notes which flow into the palate.
Lots of candied lemon and lime and as always a refreshing lemony finish.
A challenging vintage resulting in a very stressed Viticulturalist and Winemaker. The wines however, show none of this, with the 2016 vintage producing another round of excellent wines showing intense varietal characters.
