Happy New Year! Here is your very first newsletter from Sandalford Wines for the new millennium. Please keep in mind that this is your newsletter so if you want to receive more information on anything Sandalford related, please let me know! Concert Announcement - Spandau Ballet & Tears for Fears
Dainty Consolidated Entertainment, Zaccaria Events and Sandalford Wines are thrilled to announce that Spandau Ballet (www.spandauballet.com) one of the most successful and influential British bands of the 1980s, will tour Australia in April 2010.
The concert tour will kick off in Perth on Saturday April 17th at Sandalford Wines, Swan Valley. Special Guests on the tour are fellow British chart toppers, Tears for Fears
2010 marks a very special year in the history of Sandalford Wines. Not only does it mark the 170th year of operation since we were founded by Sir John Septimus Roe in 1840 it also marks our 40th year as vine growers in the famed Margaret River region, arguably one of the greatest wine areas in Australia.
 John Septimus Roe become Western Australia's first Surveyor General after an illustrious career in the British Navy. An accomplished explorer and Mathematician he worked in the New South Wales colony from 1817 to 1827 before accepting the West Australian role in 1829. After 11 years of service which included the overseeing the development of colonies at Fremantle and Perth, he was rewarded for his efforts by the reigning Queen Victoria, with the bequethment of a large tract of land along the Swan River in Caversham. This property he promptly named Sandalford in 1840 and planted with vineyards amongst other agricultural efforts. The property flourished and wines from the area satisfied the requirements of the local community. The Sandalford Wines name was established from these early days but the chance to expand was still possible.
The Winemaker at Sandalford Wines from the mid 60's to the late 70's was Dorham Mann the son of famed Wine-making Pioneer Jack Mann. Under Dorham's advice the Roe family looked into expanding into the Margaret River region in the South West of Western Australia. This area had just been assayed by Dr John Gladstone and had been assessed as being an ideal climate and terrior for the growing of Premium Wine Grapes and was indeed likened to the famed region from France, Bordeaux. On this advice the Roe family purchased a 280 hectare property which they planted with vines in 1970. The area they bought, Wilyabrup has gone on to be one of the most famed wine producing areas in all of Australia and is recognised on the World stage for amazing Cabernet's Chardonnay's and now Shiraz.
1840 and 1970 have of course now become very important dates in the history of Sandalford Wines and as we grow into the future with our wines, tourism offerings and events we will always remember our heritage from the early days and Sandalford will always be proud of the fact that we have indeed been pioneers in both the Swan Valley and Margaret River. Indeed we are very proud to have been part of the Western Australian Wine Industry and we will endeavour to continue our market leading efforts in the years to come.

Ronan Keating Concert Review
A very hot day in the Swan Valley didn’t deter a single Ronan Keating or Tina Arena fan from arriving in good time to get their spot of the Green. The audience were in for an evening of great vocals and music and Ronan’s fellow countryman Damien Leith kicked it all off. As the crowd grew to 9,000 – the heat didn’t prevent the party mood and dancing creating a great atmosphere around Sandalford’s lovely estate. Tina Arena soon followed and treated the audience to some great singing and old favourites. Finally the man himself Ronan came on stage – to the roar of applause and didn’t disappoint his thousands of fans; there was a certain romance around the venue as Ronan wooed his (predominantly female) audience. Another successful and seamless event at Sandalford – a happy atmosphere remained as the patrons exited the venue content what had been a great show!

Carols in the Valley Review
| A beautiful evening set the scene for the 2009 Carols in the Valley. The community and festive spirit filled Sandalford’s Swan Valley estate as old favourite’s and a few modern carols got everyone in the mood for Christmas. The event – held in conjunction with the local Dreambuilders Church was another roaring success with a large turnout, great music and a grand finale of fireworks which lit up the Valley and wowed the on looking children and adults alike. A great event to round off 2009 and one that will hopefully carryon for many years to come. |
