Margaret River has once again been favoured with ideal ripening conditions for the 2015 vintage. Over 1000mL of winter rain, meant there was a solid level of sub-soil moisture for the vines. Mild summer conditions prevailed with cool nights and an almost constant breeze producing grapes which held their natural acid balance and had exceptional flavour development at lower sugar levels. Again, all fruit was disease free, with all varieties coming off at perfect ripeness.


The fruit for this wine came exclusively from our 40+ year old, dry-grown Margaret River Estate vineyard. After crushing and de-stemming the fruit underwent fermentation in small 10 tonne static fermenters. The traditional method of pumping over was employed during fermentation to optimise colour, flavour and tannin extraction. Near the end of fermentation, the wine was pressed, with the pressings and free-run wine kept as one, and then inoculated for MLF with selected bacteria. After the completion of MLF the wine was racked and transferred to French oak barrels (30% new, 25% one year old). After 15 months of barrel maturation the various wine components were blended together and then bottled.


Dark cherry red.

Intense cassis and blackberries with a hint of violets. Just underneath is a meld of spices -vanilla, nutmeg and cedar, enticing you to try this wine.

A classic Margaret River Cabernet. Cassis and blackberries are intense on the front palate. As the wine opens up, these mix with notes of blueberries, mocha and vanilla. Whilst this wine is full of sweet fruits, there is a definite savoury edge to the blend. The tannins are smooth but powerful and combined with the acid balance, give this wine wonderful structure and length. This wine is complex, it will definitely reward the patient consumer over the next ten + years with proper cellaring, if you can wait.
