Dainty Consolidated Entertainment, Zaccaria Events and Sandalford Wines are thrilled to announce that Spandau Ballet, one of the most successful and influential British bands of the 1980s, will tour Australia in April 2010.

The concert tour will kick off in Perth on Saturday April 17th at Sandalford Wines, Swan Valley. Special Guests are fellow British chart toppers, Tears for Fears.

Tickets to ghe general public go on sale 9am Monday 1st February 2010.

All five original members of Spandau Ballet, Tony Hadley, John Keeble, Gary Kemp, Martin Kemp and Steve Norman have reformed after 20 years, delighting fans the world over. Last in Australia in 1985, Spandau Ballet kicked off their Reformation Tour in the UK in October and will be performing throughout much of Europe before they make their way Down Under in April.

Spandau Ballet - Tony Hadley, Gary Kemp and Martin KempFrom their synth pop and dance pioneering early singles To Cut A Long Story Short and Chant No. 1 (I Don’t Need This Pressure On), to the globetrotting smashes True and Gold, Spandau Ballet will be playing the hits once again.

With 25 million record sales, 6 multi-platinum albums and 23 hit singles worldwide to choose from, this is a most eagerly awaited Australian tour.

Emerging from Soho’s ultra hip Blitz Club in 1979, Spandau Ballet formed at school in North London before becoming the hottest unsigned band on the planet. From underground, fashion and music obsessed working class Londoners, to global superstars, the band set the pace, the styles and the sound of the 1980s. Not only did their albums sell by the millions, but their look and style impacted on the fashion world and beyond. They created their own style, combining creativity with entrepreneurship and the spirit of the youth of the early 80s. Click here to watch a interview with Spandau Ballet on the Jonathon Ross show and click here to see them performing.

Tears for Fears, made up of duo Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, enjoyed similar success in the 80s when British bands were setting the commercial and cultural bar in regards to pop music. They have sold in excess of 22 million albums worldwide spawning massive hits Everybody wants to rule the world, Shout and Head over Heels. Roland and Curt split in 1990 after their meteoric rise through the pop charts only to reunite and release a new album in 2004. Since then Tears for Fears continue to sell out shows throughout the world and maintain their status as one of pop music’s more productive musical collaborations. Click here to view a setlist from a previous Tears for Fears concert. To see Tears for Fears live, click here for a performance of Shout and click here for a performance of Mad World.

Australian fans of both Spandau Ballet and Tears for Fears have hit the jackpot with this tour! Both bands were instrumental in defining music in the 80’s and audiences can prepare for a show that will unapologetically take them on a nostalgic trip to 1980s youth and pop music.

In Perth, fans will experience this amazing show in an outdoor setting at Sandalford’s stunning Caversham Estate in the Swan Valley.

Grant Brinklow, CEO of Sandalford Wines said “We are extremely excited and very honored to be partnering with Dainty Consolidated Entertainment and Zaccaria Events to bring these truly iconic and legendary performers to our beautiful Swan Valley Estate for the first of no doubt many superb world class shows we will do together in the future. This show is definitely going to be a once in a lifetime event for concert goers, and certainly an incredibly memorable way to round out the 2009/10 Sandalford Concert Series. It will surely be THE event of the season.”

John Zaccaria, Managing Director of Zaccaria Events Presents, says of the Perth show “We are incredibly excited to promote our first event at WA’s premier concert venue in conjunction with Dainty Consolidated Entertainment and Sandalford Wines”.

Well worth the 2 hour parking chaos!!!
written by Greg Lew, April 20, 2010
This is how all concerts should be! Having been to such events in most of the major cities in the world, I have to say what a pleasant surprise that the best would be at home in Perth! More, more, more ... you have set the standard ... so encore!

p.s. More ushers and organization on parking please. Cheese and appetizer platters as alternative to footy food (fish & chips and fried chicken)for such an event.

PRAISE TO SECURITY - CURSES TO THE PARKING/EXIT STRATEGY
written by Cherie Gannaway, April 20, 2010
Entry to the event was seamless! We had no trouble getting food and drink and WOW what a concert! Absolutely fabulous! Full credit to the security attendants who kept the aisles clear so those of us who chose to pay for a SEAT, did not have our view of the stage blocked by those who were very keen to stand right in front of us. A big thank you to them. Which brings me to the exit from the venue. Every concert we have been to has been a terrible nightmare to leave from. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM???? We are paying premium prices for tickets, please organisers, ORGANISE SOMETHING BETTER. We were among the first to leave the concert and get to our car and we still waiting 50 mins to reach the exit. On reaching the exit, we had no idea where we were or where to go.... PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE EXIT STRATEGY - WE ARE REALLY GETTING SICK OF IT!!!

Just to say we have been to many concerts at Sandalford and enjoyed everyone of them (including the lighting show on the Pretenders gig). Tears For Fears And Spandau Ballet were absolutely excellent. Pity it didn't go on for longer. We danced and sang our hearts out. Look forward to some great gigs next year.

Have been to Sandleford many times, it is a well set up venue with a great atmosphere. Spandau Ballet were brilliant, their music was sensational. Tears for Fears were excellent too. All staff were happy and helpful and parking wasn't an issue because we just waited a little while for people to leave and sat and had a coffee. Love everything about the outdoor concerts and will sign up for more...

A great night.

Let down by only two issues:

1. Parking mayhem on the way out. It didn't dampen our spirits but was pretty disappointing on the organisational front.

2.I agree with Greg about the food. There was just nothing to buy that was not greasy. I'd happily have forked out for a nice platter and been willing to order and pay for it in advance.

To whom it may concern

I just wish to commend Sandalford on putting on a fantastic concert which I felt thoroughly privileged to attend earlier this evening. It was my first visit to your beautiful venue and I felt that the event was professionally and efficiently conducted in every aspect from the ease of parking to the wonderful finish that was the fireworks. The staff were friendly and helpful and I was particularly impressed by the production of the actual concert. Everything from the quality of the sound to the video presentation was top notch and worthy of it's international guests.

My compliments and gratitude to all involved in making this one of my best concert experiences ever. I will definitely be keeping a close eye now on any future concerts or events you may be promoting. Please keep it up!

Warmest Regards

I made a lightning trip to Hong Kong for this concert - it's 'True' - and so pleased that I did. I went to the Spandau Ballet concert in 1985 at the Entertainment Centre. I am also hoping to go to catch the Sydney concert... Tears for Fears will tour Hong Kong so there is a chance may get to see their great performance in Hong Kong also. All the lyrics came flooding back at the concert - which I just loved. Thank you!smilies/wink.gif

What can I say, awesome night! First concert at Sandleford, but what a great venue! Was a great nostalgia trip back to the 80's, Tears for Fears and Spandau ballet were as good as they were back in the good ole days, albeit Tears for Fears were the slightly better band on the night for me. No problems with parking and exiting the venue for us. Amenities, ie bar & rest rooms easy to locate and no long queues. Would love to see more bands from the 80's era visit.

Could not believe the line-up and it absolutely did not disappoint. Thoroughly enjoyed the VIP area, food was fantastic and staff could not have been more plentiful and/or helpful (please vary seafood with other foods as not everyone is into the more exotic seafoods). Our seats were excellent and the night went off, we and our surrounding patrons had a ball and danced the night away.

Can not wait for another event - please keep me informed

An outstanding concert and a perfect evening under the stars. All the lyrics came flooding back - thank you so much for the music and the emotions. Both bands had great stage presence and really seemed to be enjoying themselves also. I am now in Sydney and hope to catch the concert... And Tears for Fears will get to Hong Kong after Australia.

Spandau Ballet well? Words there are none you just had to be there! But the main thing that stood out to my wife & I, was they were having a ball and you could feel it!
Nearly could not make it! Now that would have been a mistake in ones life!
Thanks guys! Thanks for having fun in doing what you do!

What a great concert! First timers to Sandalford but been to most other Perth venues and gigs from George Michael to Coldplay etc.. Have to say the sound at Sandalford was the best I've heard in 15 years living in Perth ... and the whole evening was fabulous! We had seats but it was great that everyone got into the whole feel of the concert and was up and dancing.... the band certainly seemed to appreciate the audience participation! The fireworks at the end were spectacular ... only downside was the delay and confusion getting out of the carpark as there was little or no organization and direction as everyone just did their own thing and caused complete chaos!! Looking forward to future concerts at Sandalford ... will definitely be back and probably treat ourselves to the VIP option.....Thank you Spandau, Teras for Fears and Sandalford for a memorable evening! Bring on more 80's bands ... Duran Duran would be great or even an encore from the Spandau Boys!

written by Colin and Kay Taylor, April 20, 2010
It is most satisfying to go to a concert and the artisits sound exactly the same as they did 25 or so years ago. Both bands were just fantastic. It wouldve been great if Tears played another 3 or 4 songs. The venue is fantastic and very well run.
Now how about getting Duran Duran out here? Another great 80s band

Absolutely awesome night. The ultimate venue. Perfect atmosphere. TFF and Spandau blew us all away. Lots of peace and love in the air. Thanks Jack. I hugged a stranger. Met some great people. Danced and sung the night away. On the bus back to Como too for those who were on it. Still buzzing and humming all the songs in my head since. A night I will never forget. Sandalford Rocks.

What a FANTASTIC concert at a fantastic venue! Parking on the way in was a struggle, were advised via email from Ticketek to allow 30mins on the way in - try 1 hour and 10 mins!! Luckily we made it to our seats - just as TFF started their set, and what a set it was.. I fell in love with them all over again! By the time SB started I was a geeky teen, bopping along to the music!!
We had another wait at the end of the evening, but only 30 mins, we avoided the chaos by people watching (some great laughs to be had)
Thanks Sandalford,now... can you get Duran Duran to play on a nice balmy summer evening please!!!

BRILLIANT VIP EVENT
written by Shar & Paul - Hillarys, April 20, 2010
Although the ticket price for the VIP event seemed pricey, it was well worth it for the Pre-Party drinks, food and eventual fantastic seats we received. 3 rows from the front, in the middle was awesome and the bands were absolutely a huge highlight of my year!! These two bands could even be better that they were back in the 80's. Absolutely THILLING!!! smilies/grin.gif

written by Shian Munro, April 20, 2010
Wow! Wow! Wow!
This was my first Sandalford concert and it was amazing. The venue, the organisation and the atmosphere when we all sang along to classics like True left the atmosphere buzzing. It was great to see people dancing and really getting into the moment.
Spandau Ballet were absolutley incredible - like putting a CD on - their voices and sound were as I always remember it to be. Perfect.
From my bedroom wall 20 plus years ago to live at Sandalford was surreal and very special!
I'd love to see Bands like Muse or Coldplay out at Sandalford - the venue would really complement such talent!
A huge Thanks for this unforgettable experience.

EXCELLENT concert - SHOCKING taxi availability afterwards
written by SP, April 20, 2010
Oh man! The concert was SOOOO good! Whilst I totally LOVE Spandau Ballet (ever since seeing them in the 80's!), I have to say that Tears for Fears were just as good. I thought I only knew a couple of their songs, but every single one of them was well-known, well-loved and well sung! Excellent job on the sound, lighting and security.
The seats were comfy, but felt they were cable-tied a little too closely (didn't REALLY want to get to know my neighbour THAT well).
Now, to the taxi availability afterwards.....WHAT THE HELL??? Sure, there were plenty of maxi taxis....who drove STRAIGHT past us, even though we were standing in the Taxi Bay. Not quite sure what the girl with the light saber was doing, and I suspect neither did she. After waiting for more than an hour and a half, and I think after stealing someone else's taxi (sorry to whomever that may have been!) we finally got home just before midnight. To have such a great event spoiled by something that is as fixable as this is a shame. If you're going to have such a large event, please make sure there are enough taxis on call afterwards to keep your patrons happy.

Agree with everyone re carpark exit. Also $30 for $8 "yellow" - fizzy wine does not work in "plastic" it explodes everywhere losing most of it.

AWESOME SHOW, I grew up in the Uk and was a massive Spandau fan, the show was one of the best I have ever seen anywhere, the venue (except for the exit mess at the end of the evening) is fantastic. The crowd was up all night dancing & singing. Tears for Fears were brilliant (disappointed there was no CD's to buy)... and what a finale GOLD and the Firework display.....More 80's please please - Duran????

We really enjoyed the concert. The music was great and we were very happy to actually be able to reserve seats. We were also impressed with the parking arrangements, and were able to get away fairly quickly, considering the large crowd. We also loved the idea of the fireworks at the end.
Future acts I would love to see at Sandalford would be: James Taylor, Jackson Browne (on his own), Corey Harris, Keb Mo, Robert Cray, Paul Rodgers, Jeff Beck, Peter Frampton.

Experience of a lifetime!
written by Marita, April 20, 2010
OMG!!! My friend & I were nearly peeing our pants on the way to Sandalford on Saturday night, in anticipation of seeing Spandau Ballet & Tears For Fears LIVE! smilies/shocked.gif

We were running a little late and got caught up in the long line of traffic waiting to get into the carpark. However the security & parking staff were excellent and well organised.

Unfortunately, we missed the first one or two songs from Tears For Fears, but thoroughly enjoyed the rest of their fantastic performance.
Head Over Heels & Shout were my favourite songs of theirs! They didn't disappoint! smilies/smiley.gif

After a not-too-long break for rearranging the stage, it was time for our beloved Spandau Ballet to come on! From the very first beat to the last wave goodbye, we were on our feet, singing, cheering & clapping!
The boys ROCKED!! Seriously, they sounded just as good if not even better than they did 25 years ago! And the memories of those times were just as vivid! Tony, Gary, Martin, Steve & Jon were AMAZING!
I can't stress enough just how BRILLIANT they were! smilies/cheesy.gif

The fireworks were a fantastic surprise too - totally unexpected!! smilies/cheesy.gif

The winery is definitely one of the best, if not THE best venue I've been to here in Perth! I took my own snacks & drinks, so I can't really comment on the food & bar drinks on offer!

Some of the acts I'd really love to see are, Duran Duran, Wham, The Cranberries, Simply Red, Harry Connick Jnr, Sting.

OVERALL FANTASTIC NIGHT - NOT MUCH TO FAULT.
written by Mel , April 20, 2010
THANKS FOR A GREAT NIGHT! The weather made it - if it had of been wet, I doubt I would be raving like this, but it was an absolutely MAGICAL night, with great music. The highlight was definitely "Woman in Chains". PROs - fabulous 80s music by bands that obviously appreciate their audience and were out to impress; sound quality; lighting; wine (cool plastic wine bottles); the van with cheese platters and turkish bread & dips (YUM!); portaloos with lights, paper, water, they flush and even disinfectant; fireworks; happy staff; general organisation CONS - seating way too close together (need longer wire ties between seats - uncomfortably squishy); tickets too expensive (but this seems to be the norm for all bands/venues now. Unfortunately this imits the number of concerts we can go to each year); price of wine (although this may be standard price for restaurant/concerts, do you sell your wine for $24 a bottle at the cellar & bottleshops? - it was enjoyable though). Despite our criticisms, we had a fabulous night, can't stop raving about it to everyone and were lucky to get our car in and out with less trouble than expected. I agree that Duran Duran are THE band to get - saw them 2 nights in a row a few years ago in Sydney and then in Perth at the V-Festival and they are truly a class act and are sounding better than ever. On their website, they even mentioned that Perth was the highlight of the Australian tour. Others to see at Sandalford - A-ha, John Mayer, Led Zeppelin...smilies/cheesy.gif

written by Trudi Clements, April 20, 2010
This was by far the best concert I have been to at Sandleford! Getting in was fine, no q's and the staff did a good job of directing the cars in the carpark. I didn't have to Q for drinks and the staff were fine. There was a Q for the ladies loo but thats to be expected! Jack Jones was a bit blah - Tears for Fears were fantastic and Spandau Ballet were AMAZING!!!! I am a huge fan and travelled all the way to the UK in October to see them play - didn't know they were coming here - DOH! The fireworks were a lovely suprise and rounded a great night of good wine and dancing off a treat. We sat in general admission and (as always) there are a couple of boring old fuddy duddys who complain when we get up and dance which is REALLY annoying - it's a concert for crying out loud - we want to dance! If you want to sit down, go and buy the CD and sit in your back garden! Maybe there can be a special section for boring old gits that want to sit on their picnic rugs all night? Exit out of the carpark was a joke. We were stationary for over an hour with no staff guiding the cars out of the carparks. Even that didn't ruin an wonderful night (ps, Martin Kemp, will you marry me?)

Great venue. Fabulous seats. Tears for fears-simply brilliant. Spandau Ballet thoroughly entertaining . Yummy wine. I became 15 again watching my favourite spandau boys perform again-it was like 1985 all over again.
Only wish i had purchased vip for the chance to meet them too but gold reserve was ok too!!The seats in gold reserve could have been less squashy-and perhaps a little dancing area made so we didnt have to occlude other peoples views when we stood up to dance. Apart from these very minor things it was an absolutely perfect event!

Brilliant concert, the Spandau and Tears boys still have 'it' in spades. It was the first time we had been to a Sandleford event we were impressed, very well organised. Only a couple of gripes, we were in gold reserve and the seats were small for tall and well built people and being tethered together made it difficult for my hubby to get comfortable. Being only 4 rows from the front and right up one end the speakers were right in front of us and some of the sound when Tears were on was distorted. Thought the fireworks were a great way to finish the night, and a good tactic to pull the crowds attention away from requesting too many encores. Would definately go to another event at Sandleford all in all a terrific night.

The show was excellent, and the acts were a real treat, but again the organisation of the show was a let down. There was a constant stream of people coming to their seats well after the show had started, and this was in direct line of sight from us to the stage. You really should insist that people be seated before it starts, as this ruined our night.

The security people were also constantly moving around whilst not really doing anything, and having seats is pretty pointless if everyone stands up.

This is our second show at Sandalford, and again can't fault the acts, but you really need to tidy up the organisation such as it is.

SPANDAU BALLET with TEARS FOR FEARS you could not have picked a better combination of 80's hit music makers. The venue was great weather was perfect the choice of food was a bit dismal and the GOLD RESERVE SEATS WERE TO CLOSE TOGETHER i we spent the whole concert sitting on an angle so as not to inconvienience the other patrons. Other than that it was totaly amazing especialy MICHEAL WAINRIGHT the backing singer for tears for fears what a voice........

As an Oils,Chisel etc fan in the 80's I thought the whole 'New Romantic' thing was boring but I was blown away by the quality of Tears for Fears and while not liking Spandau Ballet so much I really got into the show. Had a great evening and loved Jack Jones too. And the fireworks? I reckon you just wanted to distract us so that SB could get off the stage without being called for another encore, but it was a good touch to finish off.

Seven of us went to the Spandau Ballet/Tears for Fears concert on Sat 17/04 at Sandalford. You couldn't have asked for better weather altho we took along jackets etc, it was a lovely warm night.
The Concert was fabulous and Spandau Ballet sounded as good and as young as they had been all those years ago!!!! Their performance was brilliant and they just rolled from one song to another with enthusiasm of a new band!
The setting at Sandalford Winery is amazing, service to buy wine etc was great, facilities fine!!!
That was the second concert I have been to there, and I can't wait for the next one!!!!!
Thanks!!!

Entry to the concert was smooth and the facilities were first class. At first I wished that I had brought my own chair but once the concert started, chairs just obstructed the standing space.

The show was incredible and it is hard to pin down exactly what made it so. Perhaps a combination of things but one thing that plagues so many concerts is the sound balance. I wonder why so many people stuff this one up. But the sound levels at the Spandau Ballet / Tears for Fears concert was absolutely superb!!!! The vocals were clear and not drowned by the instruments. The bass was effective without dominating the overall sound. Hats off to the sound engineers for getting this one right!!

I have to agree with other comments regarding the exit procedure. Given that everyone was leaving at the same time as opposed to the rate at which people arrived, I guess it was not too bad. We were in the line of traffic for about 20 minutes and then had no idea where we were. A few signs would have worked well.

I am a regular at Sandalford events, the bands were great, though very disappointed how the vip section was planned with the empty area to the left and right of this area blocked off. This blocked off access to the stage and took a great amount of atmosphere away from the concert. Security has been the best it has ever been. As for other comments of lack of non-greasy food, there is a great gourmet van selling anti-pasto called Vanti Pasto though was stuck to the right hand corner of the stage and was to hard to spot.

Great location for a good night, Tears for fears were great and enjoyed Spandau Ballet. Only dissappointment was the traffic problems to the event. What a nightmare that was could have done with the police operating the traffic lights. This would put me off going to this venue again...

Best concert I've been to!!! Much better atmosphere than Burswood etc, more acts and for the same price. This was my first time to Sandalford and thought it was magic. The guys sounded just as good as they did in the 80's if not better. Bring on more 80's music!!!

One of the best concerts we have been to and we have been to many...Spandau Ballet were awesome and so were Tears for Fears...True and Women in Chains ....they have definitely not lost it...that is for sure. The venue, the wine and the weather all added to make it to an evening to remember....getting out the car park at the end of the show was the only black mark..on anotherwise unbelievably great night. Congratulations to Sandalford....keep it up.

Loved, loved, loved. Danced from the moment we arrived to the end. TFF and SP were just brilliant, atmosphere was fantastic, venue was great. Truly a night not to be forgotten easily.
There were a few organisational issues: we bought Gold tickets @ $160 but were given VIP arm bands, not complaining, however we were ushered to seats in the VIP section that were not ours. We asked to be seated in our allocated seats only to find other people seated in them, who refused to move because of their own seat mix up. We sat next to them in the other empty seats, but when those people arrived they were displaced, it was a whole ripple effect of seating issues. It was suggested that the whole row T was forgotten?
The door girl said we could use the offered vouchers at the end of the concert to redeem a bottle of wine so when we asked we were laughed at because Sandalford doesn't give out wine at the end of the concert. Understood, it did seem a bit weird, but the three of us all questioned her and she repeated it. After looking at them the next day, the vouchers were actually to redeem throughout the show. We didn't expect this though because we had only bought Gold tickets, not VIP tickets.
We arrived at 6.30 because of 6month old baby and subsequently food was finished??????????????

We absolutely loved the concert and venue and I suggested to the hubby that this is a must do each year....buy seats, hire a limo eachway and have a wonderful time.

Sandalford is a beautiful venue, and we were lucky also to have perfect weather....Tears for Fears and Spandau Ballet both looked like they were having a ball, that they really wanted to be there. Sure that made the crowd enjoy the evening even more. Fantastic memories came flooding back, thanks for a top night!!!!

Highs and lows for this event. Not sure whether the changes were Sandalford, the event company, the smaller numbers or a combination of all. In no particular order: no facilities map handed out - first timers have no idea what's where; normally there's someone handing out rubbish bags - now I bring my own, but a lot of people don't; fewer lights - bring back the old string of lights, people use them to get their bearings to find their seats/blanket again in the dark; where were the security people to ensure that high backed chairs stayed behind the line? hang on, there WAS no line and the HB flag was a lot closer than usual, very little room for low backs and blankets - I have photos of high backed chairs placed a good 20 - 30 feet in front of the flag, and we sat on our blanket behind them. This was at 5.00. By 5.30 the people behind me were dismayed to be told the bar had no bubbles left. The stage was larger, but the side screens were ridiculously small - no idea what messages or important information I was supposed to get. The bar facilities were well organised as always, but was forced to buy the more expensive brand on one occasion as they 'didn't have' the cheaper one. Funnily enough, friends who queued in a different line at the same time came back with the cheaper option. On the big plus side, both bands were awesome and the sound seemed a lot better this time around - quality and level has been average on occasion. And bug ups as always to the buswest guys for getting us there and back painlessly, without the traffic dramas.

Tripping down memory lane
written by Christina Paul, April 21, 2010
I was so blown away by an incredible concert, by one of my most fave bands of the 80's. I was in Perth/London during Spandau's chart topping success singles and I listen to their greaest hits cd all the time. To be here 25 years on and hearing them churn out their songs with such passion gave me goosebumps. They have matured in age and it shines through with their performance.

As for Tears for Fears, they were totally fabulous too. Memories of those songs of both these groups took me places in London I used to haunt and those songs by both these awesome groups made me retrace all my special times in London.

Sandalford as a venue was excellent, the organisational skills, security and parking was above the standards of efficiency. I felt totally safe their, without the worry of any foul incidents occurring. The audience were so civilised, GOOD ON YA FOR ONCE, PERTH.smilies/wink.gif

The only let down were the Gold reserve seats were a wee bit confined, no place to put our picnic, except on our laps.

The Spandau concert was absolutely brilliant - just as good as the one 25 years ago. Wish I couldve afforded the VIP seats! They will always be my favorite band... maybe you could get them back again in a mixed 80s set, with Ultravox and Durran Durran? Tears for Fears were fantastic as well... the lead up with Jack Jones seemed a bit awkward & unnecessary, though he has a good voice. Maybe 4 another show, start a little later and just have one support act. The fireworks at the end were a really special touch, thanks. Trying to get out of the parking lot tho was chaos & took as long as the concert - needs to be a set ally way for cars to exit coz they were all over. Otherwise, it was wonderful.

What a magnificent night was had by all on Saturday at the Tears for Fears - Spandau Ballet concert at Sandalford. My partner and i were blown away by the two acts and at one stage had to go close to the fron to see if they were miming such was the perfectness of the sound. Both bands have lost none of their zest and in actual fact i would have to say that Spandau Ballet were better live than on any cd-cassette-vinyl that i have listened to before. A truly remarkable experience.

The only downside was the fact that the venue opened at 4 and you sold out of Champagne by 6 and Classic White Wine by 6.15. I thought starnge and disappointing considering you are a winery.

Anyway, apart from that we had a terrific time

Great concert, great venue apart from the nightmare of trying to get out of the place. It took us over 90mins to get on the main road and not a parking person doing anything to even try and control the traffic.Saying that it was amusing to watch the antics of many of the middle age drunks trying to walk! They where certainly a lot of them out that night which also caused them to spoil the show at times as I wish they would have shut up and listened to the music instead of talking through it like it was a pub night out.We have been three concerts this year and sat on the grass and thats one of the faults. Next time will try the seating section and use the bus and then hopefully have a perfect night. Keep the concerts coming sandleford.

Would have really appreciated the loutering security assisting with the hourds of PEOPLE STANDING UP.The gold class fence which I feel could have been half that hight might have helped deter people feeling they had to stand to see the show? as the slope is not that great, this seemed to be overlooked and tainted our evening.
where was all the security I saw loutering up the top WHO would have been greatly appreciated getting people to SIT BACK DOWN.... OR TO MOVE TO THE BACK IF THEY WANT TO STAND? this was really unfortunate smilies/angry.gifsmilies/angry.gifsmilies/sad.gifsmilies/shocked.gifsmilies/cool.gifsmilies/tongue.gifsmilies/tongue.gifsmilies/kiss.gifsmilies/cry.gifsmilies/angry.gifsmilies/sad.gif

Why were cans of Lemonade conviscated when you can buy cans of beer from the bar, is one more of a security risk than the other?

The concert was great and bar staff were good. We had a little frustration at the beginning with what we could and couldnt bring in. We have been to many of your concerts and have always brought in our own water and diet coke. We feel then we are being a little responsible. When we got there security told us we were not allowed to bring anything in to drink. In the email we received we were and every other day on the green we have been allowed to bring these items in. In the end after lots of discussion we were allowed to bring in our sealed water containers but no cans because apparently they are dangerous. Too expensive to buy coke inside. When we went to the bar we discovered that bourbon was being sold in cans. Dont get the difference between our cans and yours. When we wanted to leave our cans in the cloak room the security guard said we couldnt so we had to find a supervisior who eventually said that it was no problem. Other than the rough start the general concert was great as always except for a couple of smokers who when they were asked to go to the smokers area got a little grumpy and wanted to fight about it.

George was fantastic but this evening beat it hands down.Sandalford you have done yourself proud. We could not find fault with anything about the evening ( maybe the slight hangover the following day with too much champagne). Spandau were amazing and so were Tears for fears. Show extraordinary. Musicians were too good looking.,their technical skills as musicians of a very high calibre.Entertainment value,in the top rank.No going through the motions for these performers. Looked in control, sounded young, professional and seamlessly robust interpretations of their melodic and enticing music. Event organization, excellent, we had good seats and were given assistance in finding them. Parking and traffic was easy to get through. Security was appropriately helpful and obliging.Food was fine, we purchesed a cheese hamper. Wine was pricey thirty dollars for a modest vintage. No long waits, staff friendly. Fireworks was the icing on a beautiful wedding cake. Had not been to other gigs there. What a friendly and beautiful atmosphere. Keep it up guys. Top rating from the Stewart family.

Tears for Fears & Spandau Ballet Concert
written by Cel, April 21, 2010
Really enjoyed the concert, the sound was great and the opening 'Woman in Chains' by Tears for Fears really set the bar for the evening. Loved the fireworks too!
I would have liked a greater range of food especially to go with all the wine, not just fast food. I have attended many concerts particularly in UK. A great model are the Hampton Court Palace concerts in Surrey - maybe you can investigate that for more ideas - they have a diverse set from opera, Van Morrison etc. They also sell platters and picnic baskets etc for food.
I would love to see Duran Duran, The Church, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Abba (OK I am dreaming), Paul Weller or the Jam, The Clash, Van Morrison, The Cure, The Gypsy Kings, Blondie, Talking Heads....etc
A great night, great selection of artists - thank you!

If possible, in future events high back chairs should be in a separated area or not allowed, I took low back chairs and felt in disadvantage of a group of high back chairs in front of us.
For future shows, why not David Gilmore/ Pink Floyd? Men at work?

My girlfriends and I (Tonya, Alison, Novita, and Sally) were all 19 again. We dressed up in our 80's gear, and fell in love with Tears for Fears and Spandau all over again. It was a fantastic night. One or two people had one too many, one or two people couldn't see well enough, but I only saw people re-live their youth, enjoy the bands huge talent, be wowed by how fit and well all the players were, and dance their socks off. I can't complain about anything, the parking was great on the way in, and considering the number of people all trying to leave at the one time, there was no real issue with the exiting traffic, it just gave us more time to sing in the car. Sandleford Wines and the tour promotors did a brilliant job at putting on a great show. Thanks to everyone, and special thanks to my mates who shared the love with each other, with me and anyone near us, as we screamed and sang at the top of our voices.

The performances by TFF & SP were absolutely brilliant, I was transported back in time.It was our first time at Sandleford, lovely venue. Only two negatives - took us an hour to get there which was a bit much as we only live ten minutes away, and a big boo to the people who happened to come and stand next to us. We were at the very back which is what we wanted but the eight people next to us were not there for the concert, only to get drunk and talk continually, very loudly and get louder as the night went on. Think we might come as VIP's next time - it would be worth it to see UB40!

We travelled by train from Success to Midland and then by shuttlebus to the winery, there were no wild delays, no parking hassle, no giant lines - what else could you ask for? By the way who else sung TFF & SP on the shuttlebus back to Midland train station?

Long live TFF
written by Nelson Chan, April 22, 2010
I came along to see Tears for Fears and Spandau Ballet were the consolation prize. Never having seen either it was a great evening reliving the early 80s and reminding me of my years at Sheffield Poly. Shame TFF were only on for one hour without an encore - there was plenty of time according to the schedule. Would have liked to have seen them play Suffer the Children, Watch me Bleed and Memories Fade. Spandau were exciting to watch and hogged the center video screen which was the only one in HD (TFF only had use of the two side screens). Spandau also had a backing female singer something TFF could have done with for Woman in Chains (Oleta Adams?). Spandau played all their bigger hits but missed out on most of their earlier music. The venue was full of Brits reliving their youth. Roll on another night of 80s nostalgia!

the Sandalford Wines ! Thank You So Much for an awesome experience ,
that I will remember for many years to come !

It was Gold!
written by Karen, April 23, 2010
Love the concert on Saturday night - it was awesome. We were lucky enough to be close the stage which was great. Saw Spandau Ballet in 1985 but I think they were better this time. The sound quality was brilliant and the tightness of the band was impressive. Tears for Fears were great also - could have had another 30 mins of them easily. It would have been great for all the performers to come on at the end and do a song together.

Heard the parking was a problem so we caught a bus through Buswest - expensive - $25 from the Vines(!) but very worth it. No problems for us getting out.

Suggested performers for next season - Simply Red, Duran Duran, Crowded House, The Black Sorrows, Rob Thomas (I know he has just been but I couldn't make it that night).

Well done Sandalford - a great night all round. We will be back.

spandau ballet review and tears for fears
written by brett clarke, April 23, 2010
awesome night the only recomendation would be to move the sound towerback more as blocked the view from the back but awesome concert missed jack jones but otherwise TFF and Spandau were a great act to beat this year. Sandalford also needs to take into beverage prices abit expensive but otherwise thumbs up better setup than Leewuin...

smilies/smiley.gifsmilies/smiley.gifThis was my birthday present and I thought it was brilliant. first concert there and enjoyed Tears and Spandau usually like Jack Jones but thought he wasnt really enjoying himself and all the people in front were talking and standing so little was seen of him. I could of been there for hours and enjoyed more . The bands sounded brilliant and screens were good apart from a big black speaker so we couldnt see the main screen on the side where we sat.

80's heaven, what a fantastic night, great venue, it beat Wembley Arena back in 84 which was the last time I saw Spandau Ballet. Tears for fears were awsome too, shame they weren't on longer...The only bad thing was my hangover in the morning smilies/cheesy.gifsmilies/cheesy.gif

What a fantastic concert. Seeing Tears for Fears & Spandau Ballet was like being back in the 80's, the whole night was brilliant,
we loved every minute of it. It was such a great atmosphere, a beautiful venue, a relaxing picnic tea, great friends, great crowd, and the best music we've heard live in ages. Long live the 80's! Thanks for holding this great concert.

The best night ever
written by HelenP, April 24, 2010
I had such a brilliant night, that on the Sunday I was depressed! I've been to many many concerts and this rates as one of the most outstanding. Burswood Dome is DIRE, ME is OK but has none of the character of Sandalford. Even without VIP tickets you feel special visitng Sandalford.

On the down side - you'd run out of Gold before 5:30 and I'd had my heart set on some bubbly. And the carpark.... took approx an hour to get out. BUT the atmosphere in the carpark was great with happy punters everywhere.

I'm already looking forward to the 2010/11 season. Keep up the good work.

Great Bands

I would prbably classify as one of those "fuddy duddies" someone described. I'm not - my husband and I had a ball, I took him because Spandau Ballet is one of his favourite groups. We travelled a road trip of over 900kms to be there. I bought seats at the front. My husband is very ill and could not stand all night. And yet people were allowed to leave there seats and dance in the aisles - he could see nothing. I was constantly abused and ignored when I asked people to please move. Please Sandalford - have a designated dancing area. I love dancing, so did my husband - he can't now but of course you need to dance at a concert, just not in front of seated people. Please. Also the two totally drunk women behind us spoilt it somewhat - they didn't like Tears for Fears so screamed and yelled all the way through it then fell all over the place later when trying to dance. So please think - not all people who are seated are fuddy duddies.

Just wanted to say I have only been to a few concerts at Sandalford and they where all fantastic, the setting is beautiful, the atmosphere is laid back and the artists have been fantastic...Spandau Ballet and Tears For Fears put on a great show, loved them both..I also attended Tina Arena and Ronan Keating and that was another awesome night.
I have no issues with parking as my hubby drops us off and picks us up..easy!! One thing that took me by surprise was that at the Ronan concert people only danced in the aisle , not infront of those seated on the grass...but at the Spandau Ballet people just stood and danced in front of everyone..so it may be a good idea to have half only seated and the other half for dancing...We moved up the back and danced all night, but there was those that where slightly older and needed to sit...Please bring Depeche mode to Sandalford x o x

Totally agree with most comments!(Exit Strategy).
I'm in my early 40's and dragged my wife along, in her well late 20's and even she loved the concert! I thought of the concert as a once in a lifetime opportunity!(our 1st visit to sandalford's winery).
On a promotional issue, we live in Bunbury and I heard of the concert by sheer chance while surfing the net! These artists should be more widely advertised to attract an audience such as me who is willing to drive an hour or two and seek accomodation in Perth.(try HOT FM?)
Anyway, thankyou so much for organising such a great event!
PS is the DVD readily available? We'd love a copy for our Civic Video store in Harvey!smilies/grin.gif

I took my 12 year old daughter along and we had a ball. Absolutely fantastic can't believe its 25 years and they still can deliver a fantastic brilliant performance, both spandau ballet and tears for fears. Come back again boys, well done. I just wanted to live in the moment saturday nite and never wanted it to end!!!!

Tears For Fears Amazing!!!!
written by Cindy, April 25, 2010
The highlights:
Roland and Curt were the best, what great sound and lighting too!
Lovely friendly gracious staff, portaloos maintained excellent and crowd control guys great.
On the downside:
Stage could definately be higher.
The disasterous exit stategy for the crowd in cars bought the whole mood of the night way down-surely you can do better in that department!!!???

Absolutely Fan-bloody-tastic!
Probably the best concert I have ever been to. Sandalford caters so well for all the patrons and they belted out every hit that I wanted to hear from start to finish. Well done Sandalford yet again...I don't think I've ever seen a crowd there so into the concert.

Absolutely Awesome!!!
written by Colin & Val - Roleystone, April 26, 2010
Firstly I would like to give praise to the venue. If I hadn't been to Sandalford just recently for wine tasting I would have expected the setup to consist of a basic amphitheatre for the stage. I was absolutely amazed at the seriousness of the stage setup, very professional. Beautiful location, the best I've been to.

Now to the bands, any notion that we were about to listen to a bunch of has-beens were blown out of the water when they started to perform.
I agree with other comments regarding Spandau Ballet been brilliant but so were Tears for Fears. They reminded everyone how good the music really was in the 80's.

Awesome concert, hope to see many more 80's Bands.

Long live the 80's!!!

My first event at Sandalford...a beautiful venue, excellent sound and view of the stage. Tears for Fears and Spandau Ballet were absolutely fantastic, couldn't have asked for a better experience. The parking as we left was another story, cars attempting to exit from every direction, no marshals in sight - total chaos.

Great Night !!
written by Kate, April 27, 2010
Went to Sandalford for my birthday, and had such a great night . TFF and Spandau Ballet were unbelievably good, and so is the venue . Had no problems getting in or out, i think it is all in the timing of when you exit, and we did pretty quickly . Only thing is you ran out of Champers at about 6pm, how the heck could you let that happen ??? And the prices for wine and champs were over the top, but we all expected they would be so we cashed up !! All in all we had a brilliant night, cant wait for the next concert....
Thanks smilies/grin.gifsmilies/grin.gifsmilies/grin.gif

What's not to love about Spandau Ballet !
written by Sandra, April 27, 2010
An exceptional night, and to those that have asked me since what I thought of the show, I simply say "it was a magical evening". TFF for terrific, and I enjoyed them very much. However, when Spandau came on, it was spine-tingling, watching the prelude on the screen, and then seeing them all standing behind the curtain, in unison, that was a 'wow' moment! Spandau sounded fantastic, they have managed to recreate the magic. I saw them in May 1985, and I was way up the back of the Entertainment Centre for that one... so to be sitting on the grass, fresh air, and seeing such a spectular show, I loved every single minute of it. I sang myself hoarse! I thought the whole night was very well organised, and the fireworks at the end just topped off a wonderful experience!

Stunning trip down memory lane
written by Fleur Allen, April 30, 2010
Congratulations on a memorable evening. I attended with 3 friends all with varying degrees of nostalgic memories of both Tears for Fears and Spandau Ballet however from the moment Spandau Ballet stepped on stage all the memories and good times came flooding back. I had forgotten how good they were live; having seen them back in Perth in '85.

Stunning end with the fireworks, the fireworks should be.

Congratulations and thank you

The BEST BY FAR
written by Norma O'Neil, April 30, 2010
We go to a lot of concerts (nostalgic concert tragics) - this has to be up there with the Best! SB and TFF were better than ever - our son is a local muso and he was blown away - he was only about 10 when these guys were huge. I am still reliving the night - we had great seats and the weather played its part. Bring 'em back I say.....one criticism was the getaway at the end. Need to have some direction and order pls!

What a great event!
written by Steve, April 30, 2010
This was a truly outstanding event in every way. My wife and I drove to Midland train station, parked and got straight on a shuttle bus to Sandalford. Both Spandau Ballet and Tears for Fears were sensational: Tony Hadley's voice is as good as it was 25 years ago. The sound production quality was superb. At the close of the show, we took in that great fireworks display, walked straight to another shuttel bus to get us back to Midland train station and we were home in North Perth 47 minutes after the concert ended. A great venue in every respect.

Fantastic night. I saw them in 1985 and they were brilliant and they were brilliant again today. Much better venue than the Burswood, very relaxing and enjoyable a fun night out. The crowd was really well behaved as well, good to see people have good clean fun!

Spandau

We had a brilliant evening! The venue was ideal, we couldn't have wished for better weather and Spandau Ballet did not disappoint - they were awesome!! Despite feeling our age when the band said it had been 25 years since their last performance in Perth (!), the crowd made sure it would be a memorable evening, everyone was in great form singing and bopping along all night.
Facilities at Sandalford were great and we made use of the well arranged public transport options. Oh and the Sauv Blanc went down really well too!

What a great night! It was seriously the BEST concert I have been to in over twenty years.
A crowd of us danced and sang our way through two great bands. Wow, did we sing! I went to see AC/DC in March but I lost my voice with SB.
We all sang SB songs on the bus going home.
It just was the BEST.

JUST MAGIC!
written by Sue Oliver, May 13, 2010
The aboslute best concert I have ever been to from every aspect. Hat's off to Sandalford's organisational skills, presentation, amazing stage set up, top catering facilities, parking was a pleasure. And - all credit to a great crowd re-living the fantastic eighties era with two of the most amazing bands of the time both of whom were flawless. Takes a lot to get Perth audiences on their feet, these bands did it instantly from the first chord of the first TFF number - just brilliant!! Love to see Madness, Duran Duran, Human League, Pet Shop Boys the list goes on and being a Simply Red tragic have to include them too but the magic of this night will last forever. Thanks for the memory Sandalford.

17th April 2010 oh what a night.Best concert I have ever been to. Saw Spandau in 1985 but this concert beats that hands down.
I saw Sting and John Butler at Leeuwin but without doubt the venue and power of the whole concert exceeded the Leeuwin experience.
The bar and toilet facilities were first class and a shuttle bus from and to Garden City bus terminal made life so much easier.
Congratulations Sandalford the first time but certainly not the last time I will be attending a concert at this superb location.
