ICONIC SINGER SONGWRITER TOURS FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME! Media Release, August 17 2006. In what promises to be one of the concert highlights of 2006, iconic singer-songwriter Carole King will make her first ever visit to Australia for a national tour in November, it was announced today. King's tour will include concerts in Melbourne, Sydney and Hobart, with outdoor shows in Perth, Brisbane and the Hunter Valley, NSW. Covered by everyone from The Beatles and The Byrds to Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield, Carole King is one of the great songwriters of our time. Her era-defining, multiple-Grammy-winning, 25-million-selling 'Tapestry' remains one of music's greatest and best-loved albums. King's "The Living Room Tour", her first in more than a decade, has won huge accolades in the U.S. The show primarily features performances at the piano spanning songs from her phenomenal 40 year-plus career, songs like 'It's Too Late', "You Make Me Feel (Like A Natural Woman)", "You've Got A Friend", "Where You Lead I Will Follow", "I Feel The Earth Move", "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", "So Far Away" and many, many more. Her warm, plaintive voice and expressive piano playing combining to create a musical experience that is at once personal and universal.
"She played music - and played it with sheer beauty and class." - Boston Globe
"Over the course of the all-hits-all-the-time show, one couldn't help but be in awe of both her stylistic scope and the sheer size of her catalogue." - New York Post
"King's concert...provided the soundtrack to many a life." - Newsday
"With just her piano and voice much of the time, King put on a show that was a tour de force.... everything a great show should be." - Rocky Mountain News
"[Carole King's] kind of honesty and warmth is timeless" - San Francisco Chronicle
King was first inspired to mount "The Living Room Tour" while performing in private homes and small venues around the country for environmental and political events and fundraisers. "I realised I could do the same thing in a large venue and make it feel like a living room," King recalls. "The idea of bringing the show back to basics really appealed to me." What fans and critics also love is King's warm and witty on stage banter, as she charmingly details how her songs came about, heightening the intimacy and connection with the audience. The tour was so well received it was recorded for a double live album "The Living Room Tour" tour which will be released in Australia to coincide with the tour. King's story, of course, is now part of music legend. In the 1960s, she and co-writer Gerry Goffin quietly defined a generation with over 50 songs that landed in the US Top 40. In 1971, she gave us the landmark Tapestry, for which she became the first woman to win four Grammy's in one year (Best Album, Best Song, Best Record & Best Vocal Performance in 1972). She was also named the prestigious Time Magazine "Woman Of The Year" in 1972. King and Goffin were inducted into the Songwriter Hall Of Fame in 1987, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990 and were honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1980, amongst many other accolades. To date more than 400 Carole King compositions have been recorded by over 1000 artists, resulting in 100 hit singles, many reaching the coveted #1 spot. She is arguably the most successful and most revered female songwriter in pop music history. King is thrilled to be making her first visit to Australia. "I love performing when it feels right and I want every performance to be fresh and special. To perform as if I'm in my own home playing for friends is something I can get excited about." And there's no doubt Australian audiences are set to feel the same!
