Sandalford Wines have a long and proud history of making fortified wines from the old vines of the Swan Valley located just north east of the state's capital, Perth. The warm, maritime climate and fertile volcanic soils lend themselves to the making of premium fortified styles.
Producing Sandalera, the flagship of these fortifieds draws upon traditional European techniques. The base for this wine is the Sherry variety grape, Pedro Ximinez. After ripening to super sugar levels on the vine the fruit is hand harvested, fortified and cellared for up to 25 years. Careful blending then yields this engaging, luscious wine with one of the most distinguished trophy medal counts made in the history of Western Australian winemaking.
